RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for part of central North Carolina Thursday evening.
The National Weather Service in Raleigh issued the alert at 6:17 p.m. for all of Johnston County as well as the southeastern part of Wake County. It is scheduled to expire at 7 p.m.
According to forecasters, a storm capable of producing 60-mile-per-hour wind gusts was spotted seven miles southeast of Clayton moving east at 20 miles per hour.
Cities and towns affected by the warning include Wendell, Garner, Clayton and Smithfield, among others.
