SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The Abbott House in Mitchell has been helping children heal from trauma for more than eight decades, but many in Sioux Falls don’t realize the scope of their work despite a recent expansion in the city.

On Thursday, the organization highlighted its impact with the Hope in Action Breakfast in Sioux Falls, celebrating success stories and raising awareness of the need for foster families across South Dakota.

“So, you know, we really started working in the foster care world in 2013, and at that point, there were around 1,300 kids in foster care. Today, there’s over 1,700 kids in foster care and like 800 foster homes, give or take, on any given day. And so there’s just a large number of kids that need support,” said development director Virginia Wishard-L
