SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Standup: The “We Care, Pink Hair” initiative is back at Avera Cancer Institute, where a pink hair extension can help raise awareness for families in need suffering from cancer.
In this annual fundraising event, participants donate to receive a pink or purple hair extension.
Pink represents breast cancer, and purple represents general cancer awareness.
The funds go towards programs like the cancer navigation center and wig services.
“I was diagnosed in 2019. It was an experience of ups and downs. But overall, the treatment was fantastic. The sport was wonderful. I honestly cannot ask for a better provider team here at Avera. I have currently been five years cancer-free and in your mission,” said Melissa Carter, gynecologic oncology clinic manager.
