ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Atlantans gathered inside city council chamber on Thursday, eager to learn about reparations.
“People wanted us to know their concerns,” said Dr. Sheila Flemming.
The city of Atlanta Reparations Study Commission held a public forum and a panel discussion, to talk about what reparations could look like. They heard a variety of concerns from the public.
“Mass incarceration, education and healthcare is what I’ve been hearing a lot,” said Dr. Flemming, commission chairperson.
The commission formed two years ago to examine Atlanta’s role in slavery, how it may have contributed to systemic discrimination and what populations in the city these laws and policies harmed the most.
