Syracuse, N.Y. -- Soaking rain this week has put a dent in Upstate New York’s ongoing drought , but another extended stretch of dry weather is likely on the way.

Some got more drought relief than others: Rainfall since Monday has ranged from less than a half-inch in parched Western New York to more than 4 inches in the eastern edge of the state, according to the New York state Mesonet, a statewide network of 126 automated weather stations.
