BOARDMAN - Boardman Township Police say distracted driving is to blame for a car running into a tree on South Avenue early Friday.

Dispatchers were told that the crash happened around midnight on the 4300 block of South Avenue, south of Midlothian Boulevard.

According to a crash report, the driver, identified as 19-year-old Nivea Savage, was trying to answer the phone when her car went off the road and hit a tree head on.

Savage refused medical treatment at the scene, but the report says she sustained suspected minor injuries.

The report says alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash, but Savage allegedly refused to submit to testing at the scene.

According to the report, Savage was cited for failure to control, as well as underage possession of marijuana.
