THE Federal Aviation Administration said it will extend strict limits on departures and arrivals through late October 2026.

The move comes as the facility struggles with staffing shortages and equipment challenges that have caused widespread delays.

The restrictions specifically target Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, one of New York City’s busiest travel hubs.

Newark has faced chronic controller shortages and repeated radar and communications failures.

Multiple blackouts left controllers unable to track planes.

One veteran controller, now on trauma leave , described losing all radar and radio contact for 90 seconds while guiding four planes.

“Being at the controls without any of our signals is like trying to dodge mines without a mine detector,” she said.
