SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - State health officials have raised the risk level for West Nile Virus in several communities after two more human cases were reported in the Bay State Friday.

According to the MA Department of Public Health the latest two cases involve a woman in her 60s with exposure in Middlesex County, and a man in his 50s with exposure in Suffolk County.

This brings the total number of WNV human cases to 8 this year so far.

“As a result, risk levels for WNV have been elevated to high in Arlington, Chelsea, Medford, and Waltham,” noted the MA DPH.

Back on June 17th, the first WNV-positive mosquitos were detected. We’re told since then, 445 mosquito samples so far have tested positive for WNV.
