ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - First Alert 4 is mourning the death of longtime assignment editor Steve Shomaker at age 67.

Longtime KMOX listeners might remember his name and voice from his time as a street reporter in the early 1990s.

After leaving KMOX, Steve Shomaker, or “Sho” as he was affectionately known, started with KMOV on August 25, 1995.

After moving to the assignment desk, Steve’s keen ear for deciphering hundreds of police scanner frequencies was vital to KMOV’s breaking news response. He was at the helm of coordinating some of the biggest news stories in St. Louis, including dozens of elections, the Pope’s visit, Shawn Hornbeck being found, the unrest in Ferguson, the protests after the Stockley verdict, and World Series and Super Bowl wins.
