At least four Starbucks stores in the Sioux Falls area appear set to close as part of the company's plan to shutter about 1% of its locations in North America.

Starbucks will also cut about 900 jobs as part of its Back To Starbucks transformation strategy, according to CEO Brian Niccol, who announced the plan in a Sept. 25 message to employees.

The company didn't release a list of stores it plans to close, but Niccol wrote in his message that it would end the fiscal year with "nearly 18,300" locations. That's more than 400 fewer than it had in the U.S. and Canada as of its most recent quarterly earnings report, USA TODAY reported.
