LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- This weekend, hundreds of Latinos from across the state will gather in East LA to find solutions in a year that has seen so many challenges.

East Los Angeles College will host the first-ever Líder (Latino Initiative for Democracy and Economic Reform) Community Congress on Saturday, a day-long event focused on empowerment and advocacy.

Elected officials, labor leaders and workers, community advocates, doctors, teachers and lawyers will meet to share information and organize to defend the Latino community.

The initiative comes after months of ICE raids touching all parts of Los Angeles, in addition to legislative threats against healthcare, education access and civil rights for Latinos, organizers said in a release.
