LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A jury recommended consecutive life sentences in the Keyshaun Stewart murder trial.

On Thursday, September 25, a jury delivered a guilty verdict in the case of a man accused of killing a Louisville construction worker and shooting an off-duty LMPD officer in the face in 2021.

Keyshaun Stewart was found guilty but mentally ill on murder, criminal intent to murder, wanton endangerment and fleeing or evading police.

Stewart’s defense argued he was failed by mental health providers across the area.

The prosecution, on the other hand, says it’s been proven he knew what he was doing.

On Friday morning, the jury recommended life sentences for both the murder and assault charges, with both sentences to be served consecutively.
