YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) - Last weekend, the United States Department of Agriculture announced it is terminating its annual household food security reports after nearly 30 years. One local food bank says it doesn't expect to see much of an impact from the change.

In 2023, 13.5% of U.S. households struggled with food security, according to last year's food insecurity report by the Department of Agriculture.

Going forward, statistics like that won't be as readily available.

"We have never had any reason to look at this. If you look at the timeframes when it comes out, for instance, it's coming out next month. Well, the 2024 stats are going to be involved in here, so the stats are one year and nine months old," said Mike Iberis, executive director of Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning
