ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Rochester city school students participated in a STEM education event today with the University of Rochester Medical Center, aimed at inspiring female students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The event was part of the American Heart Association's STEM Goes Red program, which connects female students with industry leaders and provides hands-on experiences in STEM fields.

"So there are a couple of things that we want to accomplish. Number one, empower them because I know sometimes we are scared of math or numbers or STEM so that's one of them," said Ana Gomez-Parga, director of the pathways program at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
