SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — Renovations are getting underway at the Peace Dale Library in South Kingstown to create a new community learning center.

State and local leaders were at the library on Kingstown Road to mark the start of the renovations on Thursday.

Once completed, the center will offer workforce training, health programming and educational supports, among other services.

"This has been in the planning stages for a long time," Town Manager James Manni said. "There's been so many people involved working so hard."

Gov. Dan McKee was also in attendance for the kickoff ceremony. The governor has directed $82 million American Rescue Plan Act funds to go toward rehabilitating and creating community centers across Rhode Island.
