Court allows Centre to issue exit permits to family found living in forest cave; return can’t ‘be termed deportation’

The Karnataka High Court has cleared the way for the Union government to facilitate the return of a Russian woman and her two children, who were discovered living in a cave in the forests of Gokarna, Uttara Kannada district.

Justice B M Shyam Prasad, while disposing of a petition filed by Dror Shlomo Goldstein, permitted the Centre to issue exit permits and necessary travel documents. Goldstein had sought to prevent what he described as the “sudden deportation” of his minor daughters.

Appearing for the Union, Additional Solicitor General Aravind Kamath informed the court that DNA reports of one child had already been shared with Russian authorities.
