WAIPAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Friday marked a major milestone for Hawaii’s newest firefighters.

After months of training, members of the Honolulu Fire Department’s 118th Fire Fighter Recruit Class celebrated their graduation at the Hawaii Okinawa Center’s Legacy Ballroom.

Thirty-one recruits successfully completed 34 weeks, 1,320 hours, of rigorous training and now officially join the fire service.

“I have many milestones and graduations like most people, but to do something like this, with all the brothers and sisters and the support of family, I don’t think I’ve ever felt this high before,” said graduate Gino Kim.

Kim is one of six graduates who will join the State of Hawaii’s Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting unit.
