SCREVEN COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating two deaths that took place in Screven County.

At approximately 3:15 a.m. on Saturday, law enforcement responded to a car crash on Hwy 301 South, just outside of Sylvania city limits.

Upon arrival, officers found Leon Tolbert Jr., 30, and Brandon Counts, 30, inside a car. Both of them had suffered a gunshot wound.

Tolbert Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. Counts was taken to a hospital for further treatment, but he later succumbed to his injury.

The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) determined the vehicle had not been involved in a crash, but had driven off the side of the road. A handgun was recovered from the car.

GBI is investigating at the request of the Screven County Sheriff's Office.
