PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland residents had mixed reactions to Trump's announcement of sending troops into the city to defend the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building from what he said are "domestic terrorists." Oregon lawmakers, as a whole , have advised residents to "not take the bait" and remain peaceful amid an influx of federal law enforcement.
On Saturday, that appeared to be the case. The ICE facility on Macadam Avenue and its surrounding area were quiet, many residents noted, including Peter Morris, who bicycled down to the area after his daughter, who lives in Montreal, told him that Portland is "being invaded by federal troops."
