MINNEAPOLIS – Rutgers football was driving late in the fourth quarter, working its way toward the end zone or at least what would’ve been a manageable game-tying field goal.

The Scarlet Knights had second-and-10 at the Minnesota 26-yard line.

Center Gus Zilinskas snapped the ball to quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis, who was in the shotgun.

But the ball went through Kaliakmanis’ legs and behind him. He turned and recovered the football, but had to take a sack that cost Rutgers 15 yards.

That set up a third-and-25 at the 41. Kaliakmanis hit Ian Strong for a three-yard pass. Then Dane Pizzaro came on to attempt a 56-yard field goal.

The kick went wide right, and just like that Rutgers lost 31-28 to the Minnesota Golden Gophers at Huntington Bank Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 27.
