Right before kickoff on Saturday afternoon, West Virginia State football coach John Pennington yelled out to what was at the time a quiet crowd, “We need you to be loud today."
The large homecoming crowd had plenty to be loud and cheer about, as the Yellow Jackets put on an offensive clinic in winning 60-39 over Fairmont State at Lakin-Ray Field at Dickerson Stadium in Institute.
“Homecoming is always electric,” Pennington said. “You can feel it all week with the alumni coming in, and the support is incredible. That’s why I love coaching here. I don’t think we win big like that without the support of the crowd.
“You want to put on a show for homecoming, and I’m proud that we were able to put our best performance out there, and it was really cool to see.”
