LAFAYETTE, La. — Despite a 17-point advantage midway through the third quarter, chaos ensued, and Marshall's football team fell 54-51 to Louisiana in double overtime on Saturday night.

“It’s embarrassing what we did in the second half of this game defensively,” Marshall coach Tony Gibson said.

The 2024 Sun Belt Conference championship game rematch lived up to its billing. The Thundering Herd and the Ragin' Cajuns were tied at 17 at halftime before Marshall went up 34-17 in the third quarter.

Louisiana backup quarterback Lunch Winfield then ate dinner and took dessert to go.
