A man is suspected of stabbing his father Saturday, Sept. 27, in Riverside before barricading himself inside a home and later being taken into custody.

It occurred around 4:15 p.m. in the 3400 block of Bahia Place during a possible mental health crisis, according to Riverside Police Department spokesperson Officer Ryan Railsback.

The neighborhood is northeast of UC Riverside and south of Blaine Street.

The man who was stabbed was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Railsback said the suspect initially barricaded himself inside the home and refused to come out.

He was later taken into custody and the victim was in critical condition as of 9 p.m. Saturday.

The identities of the victim and suspect were not immediately made public.
