Forecasters are becoming increasingly confident that Tropical Depression Nine will hook out toward Hurricane Humberto and remain “well off” the Southeast coast.

Though the Category 4 Hurricane Humberto is expected to pull the smaller system out into the Atlantic and away from the United States, it is still expected to strengthen into Hurricane Imelda .

South Carolina is under a state of emergency as flooding looks to be the greatest threat to coastal towns, according to a Sept. 28 briefing from the National Weather Service (NWS).

Rain could flood streets beginning Sept. 29, and the potential for storm surge and coastal flooding could begin Sept. 30 and continue through the rest of the week, according to the NWS.
