MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Off-duty sheriff's deputies helped an 83-year-old woman get back into her home after her eviction was stopped by a court injunction, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office said Saturday.
The sheriff's office said an 83-year-old woman was being evicted from her South Memphis home on Friday when one of the woman's family members contacted Councilwoman Yolanda Cooper-Sutton for help. SCSO said they sent a Civil Levy Commander to the woman's home, who explained that the eviction was not being carried out by SCSO and that they couldn't stop it without a court order.
The councilwoman, the homeowner, and her lawyer, SCSO said, got a court injunction proving that the woman had paid her taxes, and deputies stopped the eviction and sent the movers and process server off the woman's pr
