MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Shelby County Sheriff's Office issued a statement Saturday, in which they took responsibility for a "procedural lapse" that led to the release of a man convicted of first-degree murder.

Anthony Green was convicted of the June 2020 murder of Octavious Atkins on after a trial on Wednesday. However, Green was released on that same day, after making a $2,500 bond on a theft charge.

The sheriff's office said Saturday that the notice that his $500,000 bond for the murder charge being revoked was not "timely communicated," which led to his release.
