MADISON, Neb. (KTIV) - A single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a Madison farmer on Saturday, Sept. 28.

The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office was called just after 6 p.m. to investigate a crash on a county road.

Deputies say they believe the crash took place earlier Saturday afternoon on 559th Avenue, when a truck left the gravel roadway and entered a ditch. After entering the ditch, the pickup truck struck a dirt embankment about 1.5 miles south of Highway 32, according to the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office.

Fifty-year-old Steve Hastreiter, a farmer from Madison, died at the scene after lifesaving efforts were performed. Stanton County deputies say friends and family of Hastreiter were looking for him after he didn’t come home.
