PORTLAND, Ore. — Legal documents obtained by KGW show that the Trump administration ordered 200 Oregon National Guard members into federal service on Sunday, one day after the state failed to act on a request from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to deploy troops under state authority the day before.

The memos — filed as Exhibit 1 and Exhibit 2 in a lawsuit Oregon filed Sunday against the Trump administration — outline a 24-hour escalation in which federal agencies sought to deploy Oregon's National Guard (ORNG) to protect immigration enforcement personnel and property amid protests.

The lawsuit, Oregon v. United States, claims the federalization of the Guard violated state rights and improperly bypassed Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek.
