SHELTON, Connecticut — After a month of piloting a new school bus camera program in Shelton , fines will now be issued to drivers who blow past school bus stop signs.
The fines will start at $250 for drivers who disregard the flashing stop signs.
Over the last couple of weeks, Shelton police say they have caught more than 600 instances of people driving past stopped buses on camera.
At the beginning of the school year, Shelton Public Schools announced that they would be installing AI-powered cameras on their school buses. The system operates by utilizing artificial intelligence-powered cameras to scan license plates.
