WATERFORD, Conn. —
The only nuclear power plant in Connecticut celebrated 50 years of serving the state Monday.
Located in Waterford , the Millstone Power plant has provided enough electricity to power about 2 million homes, while employing hundreds of thousands of workers for decades.
"50 years is a long time,” said Susan Adams, Millstone’s director of state policy. “Which takes us back to 1975 which saw the end of the Vietnam War, the formation of Microsoft and the theater debut of 'Jaws.'”
The creation of the Millstone Power station fits right in with the historical events mentioned by Adams. In the 1970s, two individual reactors within the plant were commissioned with a third coming later in 1986.
