WestJet is notifying some of its U.S.-based passengers about a cybersecurity breach that may have exposed certain personal information – including contact details and travel documents – that the airline says was obtained by a “sophisticated, criminal third party.”

The Calgary-based airline first reported the cybersecurity incident in June, affecting its internal systems and its mobile app . At the time, WestJet said the incident resulted in “restricted access for several users,” and that teams were working to assess the overall impact of the breach.
