NEW MADRID, Mo. (WSIL) -- The rainfall early last week temporarily brought river levels up a little. However, those river levels are now taking a dive as drought conditions are taking control of the area once again.

The lack of rain will also lead to lower river levels in both the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers.
In Mississippi County, the Dorena-Hickman Ferry halted operations due to the low river levels several weeks ago and is still remains closed as of September 29.
In Tiptonville on September 29, at 1 p.m., the Mississippi River was at 6.68 feet and falling. The river is forecasted to drop nearly four feet to 2.9 feet on October 1, and and continue to drop to -0
