**WestJet Notifies U.S. Passengers of Data Breach** WestJet Airlines is alerting some of its U.S.-based passengers about a data breach that may have compromised personal information. The breach occurred on June 13 and was attributed to unauthorized access by a "sophisticated, criminal third party." The Calgary-based airline reported the incident in June, noting that it affected its internal systems and mobile app. Initially, WestJet restricted access for several users while assessing the breach's impact. In a recent update, WestJet confirmed that certain data was obtained from its systems. The airline stated that an extensive analysis was conducted to identify the specific data elements involved and to locate current contact information for affected U.S. residents. This analysis concluded on September 15. WestJet emphasized that the type of information exposed varies among individuals. In most cases, the data is not considered sensitive. The airline confirmed that no credit or debit card numbers, expiry dates, CVV codes, or guest account passwords were compromised. However, some affected passengers may have had their names, contact details, and travel-related documents accessed. To assist those impacted, WestJet has reached out directly to affected individuals and provided guidance on the situation. The airline has also engaged Cyberscout, a vendor specializing in identity theft management, to offer fraud assistance and remediation services. In response to the breach, WestJet has implemented additional cybersecurity measures and is cooperating with law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security. The airline has notified U.S. credit reporting agencies and the attorneys general of various states regarding the incident. WestJet stated that it is committed to enhancing its cybersecurity protocols and will continue to monitor the situation closely. The safety and integrity of its airline operations were never at risk, according to the airline's statements.
