The New York Mets have retained manager Carlos Mendoza despite a disappointing finish to the 2025 MLB season, president of baseball operations David Stearns confirmed on Monday (September 29).
“I believe Carlos has all the same traits and assets that I believed in when I hired him two years ago,” Stearns told reporters during his exit interview at Citi Field via the New York Post . “I still believe he’s a very good manager, and I think he’s gonna demonstrate that.”
The Mets lost to the Miami Marlins in their final game of the MLB regular season, dropping to a final record of 83-79 and missing the postseason entirely, despite having an MLB-best 45-24 record in mid-June.
“I’m the architect of the team. I’m responsible for it,” he said.
