CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The National Institute of Mental Health said the number of pre-teens committing suicide is increasing by 8% a year since 2008. We’re talking about children younger than 11 years old.
A Charlotte mother lived through the nightmare of a preteen’s attempt at suicide when her 6-year-old son tried to end his life.
“When he was five, he started talking about suicide to his kindergarten teacher. And when he was six, he tried to die by suicide,” said Carla Carlisle.
Carlisle’s son J.C. survived his suicide attempt. At the time, he was actually her foster son who had suffered a lot of traumas at a very young age.
