KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A federal judge has scheduled a hearing for November to hear arguments from CoreCivic regarding the opening of an ICE facility at the former site of the Leavenworth Detention Center.

CoreCivic, a Tennessee-based company that owns and operates for-profit jails and prisons across the United States, filed a lawsuit in federal court seeking to force the City of Leavenworth to reopen the shuttered detention facility – to house approximately 1,000 ICE detainees awaiting deportation.

The federal government, specifically the U.S. Department of Justice, showed its support for CoreCivic last week in a motion that claims Leavenworth's city leaders have unduly interfered with this process.
