SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Fire crews will be visiting schools in Springfield to provide safety education during October's Fire Prevention Month.

According to a Springfield Fire Department press release, firefighters will be visiting Springfield Public Schools and local private schools to teach crucial, age-appropriate fire and life safety instruction to students.

The department says the month is to help reach elementary students throughout the community as part of their comprehensive community risk reduction (CRR) program. The goal is to reduce fires across the surrounding areas.

Pre-K and elementary classrooms will see the department give a curriculum designed to educate positive interaction between students and firefighters and grade-specific fire and life safety lessons.
