PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Drivers in Portsmouth will see long-term closures and detours along Detroit Street for the next few weeks as crews begin repair work on a reported cave-in.

According to city officials, a portion of Detroit Street closed Monday morning as utility crews began cave-in repairs. The closure affects all lanes between the intersections of Florida Avenue and Mount Vernon Avenue, just south of the Midtown Tunnel and the West Norfolk Bridge.

The road will be closed daily from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the city estimates the work will continue through early December.

During the closure, drivers will be detoured via Mount Vernon Avenue or Florida Avenue.
