SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Three people were selected Monday to be jurors in the trial of Persia Nelson, the mother accused of killing her 10-month-old daughter after police found the infant in a utility pipe in 2024. Jury selection will continue on into Tuesday and possibly Wednesday.
Monday marked day one of what Judge Matthew Sypniewski said could be a three-week-long trial for Persia Nelson. Nelson is facing three charges including second-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child.
Judge Sypniewski asked the group of potential jurors a number of questions. One of the main questions was whether or not people knew about this case before coming into court Monday. Sypniewski said this was particularly important in cases like this to determine who
