EGAN, S.D. (KELO) —A legendary cottonwood tree in Moody County is living on through a new business.
Just east of I-29 on Highway 34, you'll find a historical marker for the Lone Tree.
"In 1869, a survey was done for the highway and a land survey. It left a hole from a stake, and basically a cotton seed was planted in that hole. And then a tree grew from it, basically. So it became a historical marker because it was in the center of the highway, and people used it as a beacon for school kids and such," Co-Owner of Lone Tree Coffee, Michael Jopson said.
