STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) — In June of 2025, the Steuben County Legislature approved two agreements between the County Sheriff's Office and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Now, some residents are concerned that this will increase the presence of ICE in the county.
These agreements allow local law enforcement to utilize specific federal services in their daily operations. As some community members raise concerns, Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard said this is just another tool for the Sheriff's Office to use.
"We're not ICE, we have no intention of being ICE. But we are going to work with our federal partners," Sheriff Allard said. "Just as we enforce the maritime laws on Keuka Lake. It's no different in my view."
