Erie took part in a national tradition honoring first responders who risk their lives to serve and protect our communities.
The annual Blue Mass was held Monday evening at St. Francis Xavier Church in McKean.
Monday night's mass was celebrated by Catholic Bishop Lawrence Persico from the Diocese of Erie.
It's an opportunity for the community to honor those who serve, remember those lost and support those who continue to protect and defend.
The first Blue Mass was held 91 years ago and Bishop Persico said it's an important tradition that needs to be carried on.
"Without them, we would be in terrible shape. They respond to needs, sometimes even giving their lives, and yet they're still willing to serve," said Bishop Lawrence Perisco of the Erie Catholic Diocese.
