BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A new nonprofit is warning people about being careful when using rideshare services. Though they are meant to eliminate the danger of drinking while driving, they can pose an entirely different risk.

That’s why one local rideshare driver created an organization to help raise awareness and advocate for passenger safety.

Backseat Drivers of Alabama is based in Cullman, but its founder Joe Conkle has given thousands of rides all over central Alabama for multiple rideshare companies.

When he visits Tuscaloosa and Auburn during home football game weekends, he says this is when many young women are most vulnerable and he wants to do what he can to keep them safe.
