CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A subway track worker was slashed while walking the tracks at a Crown Heights, Brooklyn, subway station, NYPD said.

The 64-year-old track maintainer was walking the tracks at the Nostrand Avenue station before 10:40 p.m. when he encountered an unidentified man walking the No. 3 train roadbed.

Police say he got into a verbal dispute with the man, who then slashed the worker in the neck.

The suspect fled on the tracks.

The victim was taken to Kings County Hospital and was said to be stable.
