DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, New York (WABC) -- The MTA board will vote to finalize proposed fare hikes for commuters on Tuesday.

Subway and bus fares would increase to $3 from the $2.90 commuters are paying now.

The MTA is expected to cap the seven-day unlimited subway and bus ride prices at $35, down $1 from the initial planned increase to $36.

The new proposal also raises the age of eligibility for $1 LIRR and Metro North "family tickets" from 12 to 17.

In another change, LIRR and Metro North tickets will be valid until 4 a.m. the following day, instead of expiring after 4 hours.

If the proposal is approved, the changes will go into effect in January to align with the launch of OMNY, the tap-and-ride system, on subways and buses.

MetroCards will no longer be available for sale after Dec. 3
