The Greene Turtle is closing its Towson location because it’s no longer profitable since they stopped promotions for “Thirsty Thursdays,” the company’s business operators said.

The surprising announcement came during a Baltimore County Liquor Board hearing in which the board demanded The Greene Turtle tell them why their license shouldn’t be revoked or suspended.

Operators told the liquor board they have lost $600,000 since deciding to stop promotions for Thirsty Thursdays, a weekly holiday celebrated by college students that has recently gotten out of control, frustrating residents.

The Towson restaurant is the company’s flagship location, representing a multi-million-dollar investment.
