A British man on his "dream holiday" in the US has survived a 11,000 feet plummet when his parachute failed during a skydiving trip.

Mitchell Deakin, 25, was taking part in a tandem jump with an instructor over the Nevada desert in the US when the incident happened.

When it came to opening the parachutes, both the main chute and emergency chute failed to open and the two men plunged to the ground together, striking it at around 45mph.

Miraculously both Mitchell, from Lytham St Anne's, Lancashire, and his American instructor Jiron Arcos Ponce, 54, survived the incident on September 17.
