LANSING, Mich. (WOOD) — The clock is ticking for Michigan lawmakers to pass a budget to avert a partial state government shutdown.

The new fiscal year starts Wednesday and a spending plan is not complete.

The leaders of the Republican-controlled House of Representatives and Democrat-controlled Senate, along with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, also a Democrat, announced last week that they had reached a budget deal, but exactly what that entails is fuzzy.

The goal is to pass a budget Tuesday, but information on where things stood was scarce at the state Capitol because leadership was sequestered in a meeting. Sources told News 8 political reporter Rick Albin there is an agreement in principle, but not all the details had been worked out and the budget was not yet written out.
