FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — A 13-year-old has been identified as the driver behind the wheel of a vehicle spotted traveling in the wrong direction along Interstate 40 and crashing in northern Arizona.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety said troopers were dispatched on Sept. 30 at about 1 a.m. to reports of a wrong-way driver traveling at speeds reaching over 100 mph on I-40.
DPS said the vehicle was reported stolen and had reportedly fled from the Flagstaff Police Department.
The vehicle then drove onto a guardrail before rolling several times and landing in a tree, DPS said. The collision caused the vehicle's steering wheel to break off and be ejected from the car.
Pictures shared by DPS show the vehicle sustained extensive damage in the crash.
