LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer told state employees Tuesday to show up to work Wednesday, expecting a state budget or continuation deal to pass before the Oct. 1 deadline.
State lawmakers have until 11:59 p.m. Tuesday to pass a budget at risk of a partial state government shutdown -- but Whitmer says operations will continue as usual, telling representatives of UAW Local 6000 -- the union for state workers -- to continue coming into work despite the looming shutdown.
As of Tuesday, it has been 90 days since the constitutional deadline for the legislature to pass a budget. This comes as the federal government finds itself in a similar situation, having yet to pass a federal budget. Congress faces the same deadline as the Michigan legislature -- 11:59 p.m. Tues
